Bringing Ourselves Together

July 12th, 2024

"There are some things that we have to take as human beings on faith. The network- my Dad used to call it, ‘person to person human bridge to understanding.’ We don’t all have to be at this point or that point or the farthest point. All we have to be is in the system that works together. And I think power has allowed people to forget that our universe is intrinsically made in such a way that it all works together.

Lummi Language Tutorial

Scha’nexw Elhtal’nexw means Salmon People,

here’s how to pronounce by Raven Borsey.

Song Of The Salmon People

This song and interlude by Antone George represents our interconnectedness with salmon, each other, and those who have come before us. While singing this song, a spiritual grounding for the work was started.

We want this song to be open to all who identify as Salmon People as we embark on this journey to fight for our most sacred ancestor, the salmon. This song is open to all. Sing it. Share it.

Celebrating Fourth of the July

The Lummi Nation, like many Native American tribes, celebrate the Fourth of July to honor their cultural heritage, educate about traditions, and highlight their sovereignty and rights as distinct nations within the United States. Fireworks legality on Native American reservations is governed by tribal law and agreements with state and federal authorities, allowing tribes to regulate based on safety, cultural practices, and environmental concerns. While the buying and selling of fireworks can harm the environment, it provides crucial income for many tribal members and supports local economies. Balancing these issues requires promoting responsible practices and exploring sustainable economic alternatives aligned with environmental stewardship goals.
