Throughout our history, throughout our time, we have continued to fight for and do what we feel is right for the betterment of not just our people, but for everyone who calls this place home. This is a Shared History. We did not go to war.  We chose peace. And, in that, comes our responsibility to come together as a people to ensure that the next generations, my daughter and her children will have a more beautiful world than we got to grow up in.

- Lummi Chairman, Anthony Hillaire

Hy’shqe! We express our deepest gratitude to each and every one of you! Thanks to your support, we joyfully celebrated Treaty Day with over 2000 community members during our 6th Annual Treaty Day Film Festival last week.

We hosted several film screenings throughout the week, starting with a collaboration with Bellingham Public Schools. On Tuesday, we had the honor of hosting all 4th and 7th graders from the Bellingham School District at the Mount Baker Theater. They enjoyed a one-hour program featuring films in alignment with the Washington State’s Since Time Immemorial curriculum mandate. The program commenced with an opening blessing by the Westshore Canoe Family and words from Lummi Chairman, Anthony Hillaire. Sharing the stage with him were two generations of Hillaires, including CSSP Executive Director, Darrell Hillaire. Click here to watch his full speech.

CSSP’s First Dramatic Narrative,

The Sound

Then on Friday, with over 100 community members in attendance, we premiered CSSP’s first dramatic narrative, The Sound (see trailer below and read Indian Country Today article)! We were so excited to share this new work with the community this day and again the following day as a part of our shorts program. Accompanying The Sound in Saturday’s shorts program were films dealing with topics of identity, the importance of Indigenous representation, and cultural revitalization. Later in the afternoon, the longer film Frybread Face and Me was shown at our sold-out feature program at the Pickford.

If you couldn't make it to the event or wish to revisit some of the films, you can click here! While regrettably, not all the films from our programming are accessible online, we've provided links for the ones that are available.
