Setting Sun Institute
Our Indigenous-led think tank is focused on strategic and applied storytelling to enact social and environmental change. The Institute’s work is rooted in the values of the Salmon People, those who maintain reciprocal relationships with salmon, guided by Salmon People values of respect, responsibility, gratitude, and generosity.
We are on a journey to support Indigenous communities by amplifying their stories in the fight to protect salmon, their way of life, and Mother Earth. This project takes a three-pronged approach to applied storytelling with documentaries (Salmon People Stories), community-based participatory research and oral history collection (Salmon People Research) and inter-Tribal and cross-cultural gatherings (Salmon People Gatherings).

Billy Frank Jr. Story
Billy Frank Jr. was a tireless advocate for Indian treaty rights and environmental stewardship, whose activism paved the way for the Boldt Decision, which reaffirmed tribal co-management of salmon resources in the state of Washington. We are working to tell the story of Billy Frank Jr. through a feature-length narrative film.

We continue growing into our responsibility to Mother Earth and to future generations. In the face of this ever changing world, we hear a call for hope, we see a need for justice and we seek peace. Our work at Children of the Setting Sun puts faith in the power of uniting good minds and good hearts. Together we can make a better world for our children's children.
