Wake Up, Stand Up Rally – Mother Earth Day 2025
March 25, 2025
A Movement for Our Earth, Our Future, Our Collective Responsibility
BELLINGHAM, WA – Children of the Setting Sun is proud to present the Wake Up, Stand Up Rally on Earth Day, April 22, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM on Bay Street in downtown Bellingham. This powerful event is more than just a celebration—it’s a call to action, a gathering in unity, and a community-driven stand for our Earth and future generations.
Held in collaboration with the Downtown Bellingham Partnership and other aligned organizations, the rally will uplift ancestral knowledge, amplify Indigenous voices, and inspire environmental stewardship across all generations.
“We are the land, we are the water, and together, we rise,” say the event organizers. “This rally is about raising our voices, taking action, and continuing the dreams of our ancestors through unity and community.”
A Powerful Lineup of Voices & Performances
The rally will feature a dynamic program of speakers, artists, and musicians, including: Ta'kaiya Blaney, Gene Harry, Chief Wayne Christian, Mark Charles (Hammer), Frank Myers and Vanessa Castle. Music will be headlined by Baby Cakes, with a nine-piece band sure to keep spirits soaring. Additional local performers will be announced soon.
In partnership with True Tone Audio, NW-Traffic Safety, and WWU Ecological Restoration Club, this family-friendly event will include sustainable food vendors, environmental education booths, and volunteer opportunities.
“This is a chance for everyone to come together, share resources, and take meaningful steps to protect the planet,” said Natalie from the Downtown Bellingham Partnership. “Your presence—whether as a participant, vendor, or volunteer—helps build this collective energy.”
Education & Community Engagement
The rally will also spotlight educational opportunities with tables hosted by: WWU Environmental Clubs, Environmental leaders like Mark Charles (Hammer) and Mike McHenry (Elwha Tribe), and community advocates such as Francis Charles, Chairwoman of the Elwha Tribe.
These leaders will provide insights on environmental justice, sustainability, and practical steps for community action. WWU students will play a vital role in supporting the event’s setup and logistics.
