Empowering Education: Bridging Culture, Environment, and Technology!

November 1st, 2024

Every contribution is an investment in our youth, culture, and the health of our lands and waters. We are not just asking for help, we are offering a partnership—an opportunity to walk with us in safeguarding the future, so that together, we can ensure our traditions, voices, and communities thrive for generations to come."

-Darrell Hillaire

FIRST AND FOREMOST HY’SHQE TO OUR PARTNERS

North Sound Accountable Community of Health (North Sound ACH)

Inatai Foundation
Seattle Public Schools

Our hands go up to you, for your support at Netse Mot, this is how we thank you.

Setting Sun Institute

At the Inatai Foundation in Seattle, we led with a start up style approach of our academic and research talents, Setting Sun Institute. This is going to happen through a focus on the environment and scientific research. The crowd was in awe of the library, databases, and support we will give to the world. We took an afternoon break and came back to a Hy’shqe Dinner at the National Nordic Museum to honor the Irish, Sámi, and other performers like Navajo-Delbert Anderson and his Quartet.

New Projects

We debuted a taste of our virtual reality that will be at our new building or maybe it will be toured around the world. Imagine you want to be a part of a native ceremony, traditional gambling game, or war canoe race. No one has ever done this or documented like we can and we are sharing it with the world.

Also at the dinner we had Jack George from Nisqually tote around a Billy Frank Jr. maquette. This is a smaller scale of the sculpture of humanitarian Billy Frank Jr. Did you know Washington state will send this statute to the National Statuary Hall in D.C? Children of the Setting Sun is documenting the story and we will be at the unveiling with Deb Haaland and other indigenous folks who plan to attend!

MORNING SESSION

The next morning at the Paramount Theatre, over 1,000 students experienced a breathtaking performance of unreleased orca footage, Coast Salish music, Black Lodge Songs, followed by teachings from Sammy Gensaw III, Notorious Cree, and Dallas Goldtooth. During the afternoon break, Dallas Goldtooth continuously showed his good character by going to another podcast and included other performers through various social media bits.

WE CAME BACK TO A 5,000 IN-PERSON AND VIRTUAL AUDIENCE

Evening performances by the Bob Family, Westshore, Lhaq’Temish, Tia Wood, Fawn Wood, Delbert Anderson, Notorious Cree, and Black Lodge Singers. Speakers included Sammy Gensaw III, Dallas Goldtooth, Sasha LaPointe, and Amy Bowers-Cordalis. We can’t thank the Seattle community enough for attending and being involved!

THE WORK IS NOT OVER

As we look forward, our reach continues to expand with the first ever PBS broadcast of Scha’nexw Elhtal’nexw: Salmon People Preserving a Way of Life, multiple 2025 Treaty Day Film Festivals, Setting Sun Labs, and a full-length Billy Frank Jr. Film. Finally, our production teams are touring some of our recent films in New Mexico, Arizona, and Washington. We can’t wait till you get to watch them all!

We have many exciting projects in progress! If you have any questions or would like to learn more about what’s coming next, please feel free to reach out to any staff member to schedule a time to chat. We’re more than happy to discuss our work and how you can get involved.
HY’SHQE (we are thanking you).
